Alex Farbon and Jonathon Purssey have just returned from France after a 10 day stint of training and competing at the Cergy- Pontoise International in Paris.
They spent a week at the 'Institut du Judo' in Paris, training everyday with the top French fighters. This was mostly two hours randori in the evening but they were also invited to the afternoon technique sessions.
At the end of the week, both fought in Cergy-Pontoise: Alex beat two French fighters, the second one was despatched with a somersaulting sodi, and threw a strong Dutchman for ippon in the semi-final with a lightening counter. Unfortunately in the final he was edged out by a skilful French player and had to settle for silver.
Jonathon too missed out on gold and had to be content with silver, he reached the final with four ippon wins, three of which were throws, with the pick of the bunch a massive osoto-gari.
It was an invaluable experience and excellent preparation for the up coming Suisse and British Opens.
